WaterFire Providence
Creative Services Intern | 145 hours

WaterFire Providence is a non-profit organization passionate about prioritizing community and art to the city of Providence. The goal of the organization is to make Rhode Island a place where people are proud to live and work as well as a key destination for all.

Here, I worked as a Creative Services Intern where I worked on multiple projects that helped me to further some of my current skills, and develop new ones along the way. Throughout the summer, I was specifically assigned to help with content creation & aided with the planning, promotion and execution of upcoming events.

Gallery installations

teamwork & collaboration

  • Gallery installations displayed the work of selected artists every month at the WFAC.

  • Many events promoted the featured artists' work while collaborating with other companies.

  • I was able to aid in the planning of these events, give opinion on the layout and set up of all included pieces and in the end, I learned so much and was able to meet most of these talented individuals.

  • Setting up a gallery exhibit requires everyone to work together. There is a lot of critical thinking and intense planning/precision that is required because of lighting, sound, large heavy walls and delicate and expensive art being all in once place.

  • Talking to others and working together is essential in order to be successful.

Planning, promoting & execution of events

communication with staff & online audience

  • Putting on successful events is a huge part of this non-profits local reputation.

  • Besides the gallery there were also events put on to promote other groups who worked alongside the WFAC to utilize our buildings space.

  • Seeing the success of the events that I helped to plan were very rewarding.

Interactive media posts

digital technology: website development & blog creation

  • Using WordPress, I developed multiple website posts to alert our audiences of upcoming events happening through WaterFire, or art installations throughout Providence. These articles were pieced together after conducting much research combined with personal experience. I had to use journalistic tones in my writing so that it was easy to understand for all.

  • I along with the other interns were also challenged to  create instagram posts about what we were doing on the daily along with providing our followers with insight to upcoming events and how we were preparing for them.
