Virtual Inc.
Human Resources Intern | 375 hours

Virtual Inc. is a professional services firm. The company provides strategic advisory and execution services to organizations that are forming, growing or changing. Virtual's clients essentially use the company's expertise in whatever department they need so that they can focus more on the message behind their branding vs. accounting, finance, events, etc.

“We aren’t successful if our clients aren’t successful”

As a human resources intern, I worked with the People & Culture team where my role primary revolved around internal operations rather than client-facing tasks. During our weekly meetings, the team discussed employee management including interviewing, hiring, onboarding and office engagement. In addition, I sat at the front desk and completed administrative tasks throughout the day.

Interviewing/Hiring/Onboarding:

  • During my time as an HR Intern, I had the privilege to sit in on all interviews that my supervisor had scheduled.

  • Being able to observe interviewees, and be on the other side of operations for once gave me much insight to what employers are typically looking for.

  • I loved hearing the questions that were asked and being aware of certain expectations that Virtual had for their employees

  • There were about 2-3 new employees hired during my internship, so I was able to assist in the onboarding process & ensure that they were adjusting to the company and a general new position as easy as possible -- I loved being a familiar face to them

Office Engagement:

  • Like mentioned before, Virtual is a professional services company, this means that we constantly were having clients come into the office for conferences. One of my main responsibilities was to keep the office in a presentable condition.

  • The people & culture team lead the efforts of positive office engagement

  • Throughout the semester, there were also many activities, events or holidays going on that the office celebrated

  • Part of the love that a lot of employees have for the company is due to high levels of office engagement that is portrayed through high-energy participation in said events

  • I was also apart of the program  'Virtual Victories' which basically was a recognition post that was released every 2 week to shoutout kindness shown by other employees -- whether there was great collaboration on a project, help around the office, or if someone just felt the need to highlight someones constant positive energy

Company Culture:

  • Company culture is very important; People & Culture specifically spearhead efforts of making Virtual a place where people want to come to work.

  • Overall, they strive for a positive environment where people look forward to coming into the office and being apart of an energetic and positive group of people

  • The goal is for all people & departments to have clear communication with each other and generally work together on client based issues.
